Matt Benge Wins SRA’s First Annual Eugene J. Pereira Award

Post written by Clint Kuechler, Insurance Risk Management/Business Development at SRA

In January 2013, as I discussed the upcoming year with our Executive Team, I proposed that SRA create a Salesperson of the Year Award.  We established a criteria that encompassed what we believe makes a great salesperson:

New business
Customer service and retention
Community involvement
Industry education/designations
Consistently representing SRA in a professional manner

In recognizing the efforts of the producer of the year, we felt it was just as important to honor one of the greats in our industry, and so we named it the Eugene J. Pereira Award.

Who is Eugene?

For starters, he goes by Geno and has a spiedini named in his honor at his favorite restaurant, Garozzo’s. Geno is living legend in the Kansas City business community. After years in the banking industry, Geno joined SRA and over the past 30 years has helped build it into the agency it is today.

And now on to the winner of the first annual Eugene J Pereira Award…. […]

DriveCam: Helping Solve The United States’ $250 Billion Dollar Auto Accident Problem

Post written by JT Tollett, Risk Manager at SRA | Authoring Simplicity

Did you know that in the United States we spend $250 billion dollars a year on automobile collision costs? And out of those incidents, approximately 90% of the accidents were avoidable. That’s $225 billion dollars in lost opportunities.

A few months back the Kansas City Risk Management Society (RIMS) hosted a powerful presentation by DriveCam Lytx which highlighted the vast needs of organizations that operate automobiles. And since almost all organizations utilize vehicles, I felt like this information was well worth repeating.
Through DriveCam’s extensive research and evaluation of real world drivers from 300 different companies, 75,000 vehicles and over 5 million events they have identified the top 5 behaviors that contribute to accidents:

Aggressive Driving
Distracted Driving
Not Checking Mirrors
Not Scanning Intersections
Drowsy Driving

It’s worth noting, that each of these behaviors can be limited and/or avoided through proper hiring, training, and evaluation.

With that in mind, here are three steps to build a safer automobile culture: […]

The Auditors Are Coming! Employers Must Understand ERISA Compliance

Post written by Erin Bellamy, Account Executive at SRA / Kickboxer / Avid Runner / Professional At Getting Things Done

Employers are taking the majority of the burden of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

They’ve had to absorb taxes and fees to pay for the ACA.

Their costs have increased.

Their plan design options, in some instances, had to change due to regulation from the ACA.

And now they have an increased liability to stay compliant. […]

SRA Guest Blog Post: Coffee Time…By Mike Lammers, CEO, Tricension

Why take time out of your schedule to have coffee with someone trying to sell you something?

We all get invitations for coffee, lunch or happy hour and we’re all busy people.  Many times we just ignore them or mark them as junk mail.
But here’s a quick story that might make you think twice the next time someone you don’t know asks you to meet them.
A couple of years ago, I received an invitation from a young man named Matt Benge who had networked his way into an introduction via LinkedIn. At first I just ignored it, but this guy was pretty persistent. So I gave in and agreed to have a quick coffee with him. (As long as he bought!) […]

Changing Lives: The Children’s Place In Kansas City…By Matt Benge

Post written by Matt Benge, Consultant at SRA | Board Member | FIJI  | Competitor | Chiefs, Royals, Jayhawks Fan | Outdoorsman | Connector of people

People say to me all the time:
“I really want to get involved….do you know how to go about that? Do you know of any good organizations?”
The truth is, Kansas City has a ton of great non-profits for individuals to get involved in that will change their lives for the better.

When I graduated from the University of Kansas in 2006 and entered the workforce, I knew that I wanted to get involved in the community. I wanted to give back to Kansas City, the area where I grew up and the area for which I have so much passion. I also wanted to meet new people, broaden my network and learn more about the inter-connectivity of organizations in our area.

I went to chamber of commerce events, attended speaking engagements put on by professional organizations, helped plan fundraising events, golf tournaments and happy hours, and volunteered at events that would pop up around town. And while I enjoyed all these events and found them fulfilling, I felt I could do more.  It wasn’t long before I figured out what that “more” was….. […]
